Water Well Regulations Summary
The state of West Virginia requires certification of all water well drillers that operate within the state before undertaking a project. As of July 1, 1992, each water well contractor must have a current contractor's bond and liability insurance coverage effective throughout West Virginia. The bond and insurance will cover all certified drillers employed by the contractor. Lack of current coverage is deemed sufficient grounds to deny permits to drill water wells in the state. Coverage is valid for a term of 1 year unless revoked by the provider. We must receive a statement of continued coverage for a driller to remain certified on a yearly basis. As stated in the Certification Information section of this site, becoming certified involves the successful completion of three examinations and 2 years of experience, as well as the bonding and insurance requirements.
